Winner— Blk. c, by Fiddlesticks— Toscana. Post 12 minutes. Start good. Won handily but all out; second and third were driving and staggering. Tophet is good in mud and has a sharp turn of speed, but is not reliable. He looked at the head of the stretch as though he would win running away, but Clay had to nurse him carefully to keep him from stopping in the last sixteenth. Rosavannah ran her race and closed resolutely at the finish. Hopkins Choice acted badly at the post. Narvaez handled him cleverly, though, and managed to get away flying. Crossmolina wont do at all. It was a bad lot. Scratched— 10836 Hanlieht, 105. Tophet, place, evens; show, out. Rosavannah, place, out. Hopkins Choice, show, evens. QOA SECOND RACE— 5-8 Mile. Winner— Ch. g, by Faustus— Tinsel. Post 4 minutes. Start good. Won hand ridden ; second and third were hard at it. Dr. Tarr showed a fine turn of speed and also a liking for the mud. He was tiring, though, at the end. First Past is a good, honest colt. He was conceding a lot of weight and tried hard every inch of the road. The weight told on him and he swerved badly in the stretch, almost interfering with Eschscholtzia. Th j latter ran to the mark. Pantland did not. He was badly interfered with at the start and obliged to pull up. This may account for his bad race. Dr. Tarr, place. 2 to 1; show, evens. First Past, place, 7 to 5 ; show, 1 to 2. Winner— Br. h, by Bolus— Brown Beauty. Post 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily ; second and third were driving to the limit. Braw Lad was a good horse today. He tiptoed his field the first five furlongs and was sauntering at the fiuish. Meddler displayed great gameness. Clay punished him hard the last sixteenth. The old horse is at his best now. With weight off Donna Rita ran an improved race. Myth ran below the notch. He got all tangled up at the start and never really got straightened out. Old Saugus and King Bermuda belong in lower company. Scratched-11918 Miss Ross, 101; 11913 Locust Blossom, 99 ; 11882 Radaire, 99; 11917Banquo II., 106. Braw Lad, place, 6 to 5 ; show, 1 to 2. Won eased up; second whipped out. Hobart had an easy thing of it. He has phenomenal speed and is at home in the mud. With sound legs he would be a grand racehorse. Weight does not seem to stop him in the least and he outclassed his opponents in the going. Al Fresco did his best and Nntt rode him hard all the way. Kenmore Queen finished where she belonged. i -% r0 O FIFTH RACE3-4 M ile7~Purse 00. 5 to second ; 5 to third. 3-year- ±Jlt/0€ olds. Selling. Winner— B. f, by Loyalist— Shadow. Post 3 minutes. Start good. Won driving and out to the last ounce ; second and third driving also. Eva Wilson was the b?st ridden. Bloss got her away flying and made every post a w i lining one. He also finished strongly when the filly needed help the last sixteenth. The sam«. ride would have won for Blue Lick. He is the better horse. Bright Night ran a greatly improved: rare. He was off in the rear division, interfered with several times down th* back stretch, but came with a sensational rush at the end. Had the track been fast Free Hand would have been hard to beat. The filly was good and showed a lot of speed, but labored in the going. Fintan ran a bad race. He can do far better. Hop Scotch broke running and showed speed, but Eva Wilson stopped him in the first quarter. Overweights— Free Hand, 3 pounds. Eva Wilson, place, 4 to 5; show, 2 to 5. Winner— B. c, by Justice Lyon— Tillie S. Post 2 minutes. Start good. Won in a long, hard drive of two; third handily. J. J. T. is a consistent colt. He was not as good, though, in this race as he was the previous day. Robert Bonner Derhaps should have won. Brown was hardly strong enough to do the horse justice. About the eighth post Bonner made his run and Brown, in an effort to use his whip, dropped the horses head and he naturally swerved. This cost him the race. Sunburst, slow to begin, finished with a rattle. Little Singer showed she did not like mud. Scratched— 11944 Dalgretti, 109; 10817 John Baker. 112. Overweights— Exception, 4 pounds. J. J.
