He was well ridden and outgamed OConnell through the stretch. It was a pretty finish, neither boy drawing a whip and both riding strongly with their hands and heels. Mark Pope Leo in ordinary company. Considering this was his first out he ran a splendid race. Meddler was the cause of all the delay at the post, and would not break. Won in tha hardest kind of a drive. John Baker is at his best now and ran a cracking good race. He was lucky, though, to win The Devil was beat but Bloss clearly outrode Dupee. Bloss rode a perfect race. He rated Baker nicely in front, saved all the ground possible on the turns and when the horse needed assistance at the end he filled the bill. The same strong finish would have won for The Devil. The latter is r. good little horse and ready to run the race of his life. Plantain finished very strong. Sam McKeever did well as far as he went. He was not ready, though, and will be benefited by this race. Scratched— 12181 Harry Nutter. 96. John Baker, place. 1 to 3: show, out. . The Devil, place, out. Plantain, show, 6 to 5. Winner— B. h, by Fonso— Glencliff. Post 10 minutes. Start good. Won easily at the end after an early drive. Fonclif was far the best and showed it. Lobnngula ran a fair race and finished very strong. McAlbert was right there all the way. Bright Night ran a dall race. Mark Pat Cleburne at three-quarters. He ran in blinkers today and showed a lot of speed. Reitz on Pat Cleburne broke a stirrup leather going to the post and had to return to the stable to get it fixed. This was the cause of the delay.
