He was handled cleverly and came away when ready in the stretch. With an even break Josephine B. would have been a keen contender. She made up a lot of ground and stood a drive through the stretch gamelj Mary Kiusella liked the going and ran a good race. Meddler had no excuses. Post 5 minutes. Start good. Won driving hard ; second and third doing their best. Hoods Brigade ran a cracking good race. He stopped on the turn and seemed to be beaten but came again strongiy under punishment. Holden took no chatices and whipped the colt to the wire. Isnik showed a lot of speed but could not stand the pressure at the end and swerved a trifle under punishment Dick Furber had a rough journey. He was bumped and jostled at the start and interfered with repeatedly on the far turn. Olive Order was badly interfered with at the start and obliged to pull up. Man of Honor stopped to a walk at the end. Tommy OBrien ran a dull race and evidently disliked the heavy going. Knight waited patiently in behind Banquo II. and never made a move until after reaching the stretch. He then shook the gelding up and paBsed Banqno II. like a flash. The latter under weak handling did well. He finished on his own courage alone, Coggswell being tired enough to fall off. Host was under the whip the last half mile. The weight anchored Nathanandon. Winner— Ch. h, by Iroquois— Ogarita. Post 4 minutes. Start fair. Won palling up; second and third doing their best. There was nothing to the race. Opaque liked the going and h id sp9ed to loan. He ran away from his field and was eased up the last fnrlong. Abe Furst rnn his race He is at his best now and can be marked for early action. Andes had somewhat the worst of the break. He ran gamely though and made up bis lost ground like a gentleman. Hobart did not have bis usual flash of speed. The mud may have been too deep and sticky for him. Boney Boy got a flying start and was short on speed and cou! i not stay in front long. Scratched— 1223720Connell, 122. Opaque, place, 3 to 2; show, 7 to 10. Aba Furst, place, 6 to 5; show, 1 to 2. Winner— Ch. g, by Falsetto— Virgelene. Off at first break to a good start. Won driving and out to the last ounce; second and third driving aleo, Old Saugns was best ridden, yet barely staggered home. He faltered at the bead of the stretch aud at that point looked beaten, but under a strong hand ride came again. Henson used judgment on the gelding, and, instead of resorting to the whip, he seemed to coax Old Saugus along, On the other band both Clay and Holden seemed to lose control of their horses and floundered all over the track. Myth was perhaps the best, but Clay, instead of a help was a handicap to him. Galathee ran a good race and Al Fresco a bad one. The latters performance was away out of line. Scratched— 122382The Devil, 109. Old Saugus, place, 3 to 1; show, 4 to 5. Myth, place, 8 to 5; show, 2 to 5. Galathee, show, out. Winner — Ch. c, by Hay den Edwards—Opal. Off at first break to a good start. Won with something left after an early drive; second, third and fourth were under full sail. Brigade was mucli the bast, and had to be in order to win. He was miserably handled and on his own courage came with a tremendous rush at the end. At one time down the back stretch the colt did not appear to have a possible chance. J, J. T. about ran his race, yet had Vitatoe waited and not made his run so soon he would probably have won. Prince Blazes saved a lot of ground by skinning the rail on the stretch turn. There was not much choice in the going, and the boy displayed much judgment by doing so. Graziella showed speed, but stopped as if short. Scratched— 12343*Andes. 93; 1 12185 Biaw Lad 118; 12214 Black Fonso, 106. Brigade, place, 1 to 2; show, oat, J. J. T,, place, 7 to 10; show, oat.
