ID TIPTONS FAST MILE. The selling race war ia in full swing at Haw-thorns now and after Bishop Bead won the fifth event yesterday he changed hands. Frank Frisbie was formerly the owner of Bishop Reed, but some weeks ago P. M. Givill run him up in a selling race and took him away from Frisbie. Then the first time Civill won with the Bishop W. P. Magrane took him from Givill for ,000. Yesterday, in Magranes colors, the horse won a mile race in 1 :40i and Civill, running him up to ,1C0, which was 00 over his entered price, got the horse again. Constant changing of trainers will not do Bishop Reed any good, but Civill seems to be well pleased with his bargain. Tappan finished second to Bishop Reed, thereby adding 50 to Frank Do3s bank roll. Tappan inns in the name of Dinsley and Co., but Frank Do38 is handling him. The .racing itself was somewhat tame. There war only one clsse finish, bat that was an extremely closeone. It came out of the Eecond event which was at three-quarters of a mile for year-olds, and is was between Kentucky Farmer, Red Cross II. and Florizar. Kentucky Farmer won, but it was one of the luckiest wins ever sean at the track. Burns rode Kentucky Fsrmer and he was a stanch favorite in the batting. The youngster broke far back and did not seem to have a bit of early speed, and passing the half-mile ground his backers gave up all hopes of his winning, and on the stretch b?nd turned their attention to Red Cross II. and Florizar who seemed to have the race to themselves. Suddenly, however, Kentucky Farmer tcok a notion to run and comiDg on the outside like a wild horse h9 got to Red Cross II. and Florizar about a sixteenth out and then Burns outiinisnedthe other boys and won the race, amid stormy applause, by a cose. Florizar was the best as the race was run but Conley on Red Cross II. hemmed tne Scoggan entry in on the rail and would not let him through. After weighing in, Dean, who rodo Florizar, claimed foul, but it was not allowed. For the third race, which was at one mile, Great Bend with Burns up was backed for a "good thing." He may have bsen one, but Ed Tipton proved to be a better thing, and, running a mile in 1:39, he beat Great Bend a couple of lengths. In fact, Great Bend did not get the place. Periwig nosed him out. The initial three-quarters condition race for three-year-olds proved an easy thing for Rival Dare, who was backed from 15 to 1 down to 10 to 1. The filly got away none tco well, but she was lacky to avoid all interference and at the wire was two and a half lengths iu the lead. Nickey D. showed hirutelf to be a horse of phenomenal, speed and also an exceptionally good weight-carrier in the fourth race. He picked up 124 pounds and, stepping five furious in 1:00;, easily disposed of Goebel and Montgomery. The latter wa3 away badly and ran a fine race. Abe Cahn receutly sold Bitter Root to F. Zuehlke for 00 and the latter more than won 5m out in tho closing nine-furlongs race Dean got Bitter Root off in the lead and placing him with judgment in front all the way, won in a drive from the 7 to 5 favorite, Double Dummy. Jockey Dean was in greet riding form. He had four mounts, won three race3 and was third with Florizar. It is rather hard for this boy to get down to weight and this accounts for his having so few mounts. The popular western owner, Pat Dunne, has turned all of his horses out and will bs in Chicago today. Loui3 Ezall said yesterday that Salvabe broke down again in his last race and will not stand further training. Judge Bees has returned from San Francisco and was in command in the judges stand yesterday.
