TENNESSEE DERBY ENTRIES. No Western Derby is more important or more valuable than that annually decided over the track of the enterprising and liberal New Mem-pbiB Jockey Clnb. The only thing that operates to prevent it being contested year by year by all of the choiceet Western three-year-olds is the comparatively early date necessarily set for its decision. Many owners dislike to start a highly thonght of three-year-old for a braising contest so early in the year as April. Bat in spite of this solitary drawback the Tennessee Darby is always the Bnbject of much interest and the chances of the yonng horses engaged are widely and critically discussed by admirers of racing. At present seventy-three of the original nominations are still eligible to start, bat this number will no doubt be reduced by the final declarations doe January 1. The list, as it now atands, is as follows : A sweepstakes for three-year-olds foals of 1897. 5150 each, 0 forfeit, or S10 if declared on or before May 1, 1899; 5 if declared on or before January 1, 1900. All declarations void unless accompanied by the money. ,000 added, of which C0 to second, 00 to third and fourth to save stake. Weights: Colts, 122 pounds; geldings, 119 pounds; fillies, 117 pounds.
