MEMPHIS STAKES. Ia the advertising department of this issue of Daily Racing Fobm will be found names and conditions of the New Memphis Jockey Club etakea for its Bpring meeting of 1900 and also of the Tennessee Derby and Tennessee Oaks of 1901. The guaranteed feature has been done away with and all of the clubs stakes are on the added money system. In a letter concerning these rich and important events Secretary Macfarlan says: We give four stakes for two-year-olds, as follow: One for colts and geldings, one for fillies, both one-half mile; Selling Stake, fonr and one-half furlongs and the Memphis Stake at five furlongs. Thieo of these stakes have ,000 edded to each, The Selling Stako has 00 added. We close our new stakes for thres-year-olds January 1, 1900, to be run at our spring meeting. The Tmf Congress Stakes, one mile, I think is the first Turf Congress Stake opened. The idea in tie conditk ns of this race is to penalize the winner of the Derby and give beaten three-year-olds end three-year-olds not eligible to our Derby a chance to win a good stake, and I hopo it will produce a good contest. The stakes for three-year olds and upward are as follows: The Montgomery Handicap, , 0CO added. The Feabody Hotel Handicap, ,000 added. The Tennessee Brewing Company Stakes, Selling ,CC0 added. The Feabody last season was a guaranteed stake of ,E0O. This Eeason it should be worth at leaBt ,5G0 to the winner. The Cotton Steeplechase Handicap, for four-year-olds and upward, has 00 added. This Bhould produce quite a good race this season. .Last spring it failed to fill. The gross value of our stakeB last Eeason was as follows : The Gaston, 2-year-rlds ,090 The Ardelle, 2-year-old fillies 1,940 The Memphis, 2-year-olas 1,990 The New Gsyoso, now Lnmbermans. Guaranteed. 2-year-olds 1.C00 The Luehrmauna. now the Turf Congress. Guaranteed 3 year-olds 1,500 The Montgomery Handicap 3,470 The Peabody Handicap, Guaranteed.... 1,500 The TenDbEsee Brewing Co. selling 2,170 The Tennessee Derby 7,160 The Tennessee Oaks, 3-year-olds 2,900 As all our stakes this Bpring will be "added money," of course they will be more valuable than evsr. The Tennessee Derby has ,000 added and the Tennessee Oaks ,5C0 for 1901. Both close same time as the other stakes. We have increased the value of the Oaks from ,000 added to ,500 added. This will be one of the richest stakes for tillioa throe years old of 1901.
