GOSSIP OF THE TURF. Jimmy McLaughlin, nothing happening, will go to the races next year with a Btring of twelve youngsters, now yearlings. They are a mat, good looking lot, bred as follows : Bay colt by Cheviot Vendetta; bay filly by Ben Strome Hymnal; chestnut filly by Albert Annie Layne; bay filly by Eon Calash ; bay colt by Badge Creola; bay colt by Exile Bracken; chestnut colt by Knight of Ellerslie Fiona ; chestnut colt by Tenny Hanap; chestnut colt by Spendthrift Gold Core; a good looking brown colt by Top Gallant, and a bay colt by Eon Ge neva. The neat looking filly by Eon Coles was the beBt tried of the lot, and although she only cost 50 she outlooks several of the higher priced ones. The bay colt by Badge Creola is full of racy lines and is a bit larger in size than many of the Badges. The chestnut colt by Spendthrift Gold Core is a good, sturdy looking youngster and should stand up nnder a lot of training and racing. There are changes in the Futurity, which closes, with several ether Coney Island Jockey Club stakes, on Jannary 3, 1900. The club adds 0,000 instead of ,E00 as formerly, and November 1, 1901, is the date for filing transfer of the produce, with its engagement in the stake, which, when eccompanied br all forfeits due to date, relieves the original subscriber from any liability. The Futurity of that year will also be run over a full six-furlongs course. In the opinion of the stewards of the Washington Jockey Club, Spurs, who started in the last race at Bennings Saturday, November 25, was in no condition to have raced, and a fine of 00 was imposed upon his owner, Mr. F. D. Board. Mr. Beard made an explanation to the stewards in regard to the soreness of Spnrs and the fine was remitted. Mr. William Hendrie has sold the big mare Toddy Ladle, by Derwentwator Scotch Keel, to Mr. J. S. Wadsworth of Geneseo, N. Y., who will put her at the jumping game. She was third in the Queens Plate at Woodbine last spring, and won the Stanley Produce and Maple Leaf Stakes and Dominion Handicap. She is scarcely the "cut" of a chaser, but she may prove the exception. Canadian Sportsman. Starter Ferguson was taking a look at Ostler Joe in the paddock Monday afternoon when the old black horse laehed out and kicked him in the left leg below the kneo, cutting the flash quite badly. Dr. Wedelsteidt, the track surgeon, fixed up the injury.
