NOTES OF THE TURF. A peculiar feature of the present meeting at Tanforan has been the bowling over of a top-heavy favorite in the last race of each day for six dayB consecutively, beginning December 7. The favorites beaten were, Decembsr 7, Napa-max, 1 to 3; December 8, May W.,4 to 5; December 9, RoBormonde, 11 to 5; December 11, Geyser, 2 to 5; Decembsr 12, Pat Morrissey, 9 to 20; December 13, Montgomery, evens. For that matter the favorite Wyoming was beaten in the last race of December 14, but the winner, Zoroaster, was on so nearly equal terms with him in the batting that his success can hardly be deemed a surprise. Alderman Carey arrived at New Orleans from Chicago Thursday. While here he leasad the useful horse Chenier, that ran and won some very creditable races over the jumps at Hawthorne, and shipped him down. He will replace the aldermans jumper Gypceiver, that fell and broke his back while being worked over the jumps Sunday last. "Texas" J. H, Smith has a yearling which gives promise of developing into a handy horse if he trains on. He is a chestnut colt by Beatifies Jennie Coleman, and is credited with having worked an eighth of a mile in Hi seconds with US pounds on his back, over a track at Terrell, Tex., that is not considered very fast. The Board of Stewards at Tanforan refused to sustain the protest of Doss and Co. against payment of the purse won by Dunblane to W. B. Jennings. The horses are run and registered in his name and he ia entitled to draw down any purses or stakes won by them.
