The latter was under restraint in the first part of the race and had to go all around her field to get up. Insurrection and Olea showed early speed but Olea tired badly at the end. The distance was a bit too far for her. Remsen was made too much use of in trying to catch the leader in the first half. Sweepstakes was off well in motion and Slack made the most of it. The others were never contenders and are a bad lot. He came through on the rail, and after a sharp struggle with Manitoban won through superior riding. Bullman tried to go through with Manitoban at the fax turn, but was shut off and had to take him back andgo around his field. Cupidity was hard ridden all through the last quarter. The Amazon and Purifactor were slow to get to going, but both were coming strongly at the end. Gold Lack and Jamaica were tired out in pacemaking.
