Contestor showed the most speed and was drawing away at the finish, although he had to be hard ridden at one time to stall off Firearm. The latter was badly handled by Spencer, who took him back at the start instead of holding his position and was in a pocket to the head of the stretch. Trumpet was outrun in the first part of the race, but closed fast amd had his head in front a furlong from home, but was probably short and tired at the finish. The latter went wide in the stretch and finished on the outside of the track. Prince Pepper can do much better. Jenkins eased him when he saw he could not get up. Rafaello was outran in the first part of the race and ran his usual game stretch race but was tiring at the end. Herbert had bad racing luck. He was in a pocket passing the stand and again on the turn end of the back stretch and was compelled to go around his horses in the stretch and closed fast in the last fur- «rng; J urv,Jor ws interfered with right after the start and thrown out of his stride by hitting Wait Not. King Barleycorn gave it tip when caught. Imp showed speed but her weight and the unfavorable going settled her. Won driving; second the ame. Van Ship is a good jumper and a good weight carrier and his race was a truly run one. Ronkonkoma is promising and should win with lightweight up. Dr. Catletts performance was a good one and he might have been closer up had Van Ship been in danger of being beaten at the sixteenth post. Philae did well. Tentore tired. Lambkin, Bowen and Maiden fought it out keenly through the last eighth, and Bowen lasted longest. Maiden is an unlucky gelding. He i6 always well up at the finish. Maximus did not like the going.
