Florizar received an excellent ride and ran a fine race. Bullman had the colt within striking distance of the leader all the way and brought him up with a rash i" the stretch. Florizar hung for an instant at the sixteenth post, but came on again under a strong hand ride. Livadia showed plenty of speed, got through on the inside flying on r the tlist turn aud had no excuses other than the weight was too much for her to handle. Anthracite faltered on the turn, but came on again in the stretch. Star Chamber did his best. Sodid Scratched lH81Silver Garter. 105 ; 19038Onomastus. 115. Overweights— Florizar. 2 pounds. Vitellius was away is the rear division, but Bullman took his time in getting to the front and the colt was never fully extended. Ella Dernham was interfered with on the far turn, and dropped from first to la.st place in an instant. She came on again when straightened away, and. everything considered, ran a good race. Shut Up finished with a tre- . mendous rush and got third place in the last 6tride. Mintara ran gamely throughout. Scallywag showed a flash of speed, but could not last long enough to be dangerous. Iceni was third on ■ the inside when he fell, but was beaten at the time. Neither Howell nor Iceni was seriously I hurt in the fall. Iceni bled. This accounts for his falling. Winner— B. c. by Terra Cortn -Leonara. Went to post at 3 :3a. Off at I he second break to a good start. Won easily; second, third and fourth were under keen pressure. Ru sell R. is a good, consistent colt, was well ridden, likes a route and came away on call in the stretch. Limerick had do excuses for his defeat. Burns placcdhim cif vcrly during the entire journey, and got every bit of speed the gelding possessed out of him. Limciick was staggering at the finish, and both The Bobby and Topmast would have beaten him in a few more strides. Better ridden The Bobby would have given Ru sell R. a hard race. Patic-isi.n wobbled all over the gelding, and in fact did everything detrimental but fall off. Topmast aud Clay Po i.ier were both used too much early, and naturally had nothing left to finish with when the pini h came. Our Nellie showed speed and ran well until she stopped. She was short. Winner— B. g. by Watercress -Headflower. Went to post at 4 :05. At post 19 ininut M. Start fair. Won easily ; second handily ; third and fourth hard at it. Knight saved Headwater cleverly during the long delay at the post, got him awav flyiug and always held the others safe. Modrine. like Headwater, was well saved at the post. In fact these are the only ones tL;.t did not run their race there. Modrine was much used in the first half racing with Hermoso, who set a terrific pace. John Yerkes ran a smashing good race. He was all tangled up at the start and got interfered with repeatedly, but in the run home made up a lot of ground, finishing with a tremendous rush. La Josephine has improved considerable 6ince her last race. Belle of Memphis was stiff and sore going to the post and propped the whole distance in the race. Sharp Bird wheeled as the barrier went up aud was practically left. Scratched -MRS»Miajon, 98; 18851 Nobleman. 110. Headwater, pace. even ; show. 1 to 2. Modrine. place, 7 to 5; show, 3 to 5. He is a big. over-grown lumbering colt, that needs strong handling and Bullman rode him to perfection. Erwin ran a good race. He was kept out of it a trifle too long in tlie first half and when Martin tried to use his whip in the stretch he dropped the colts head and he iwerved badly. Norford found the track too hard for him and he retired early. This colt is possibly a mud runner only Scratched -1903SMidwood. 10-. Overweights-Wax. 5 pounds. Wax, place. 1 to 2. Off at the second break to good start for all but Tnlla Fonso, who refused to break. It was a tight fit between the first three and one of the most exciting finishes of the present meeting. Castake was ridden to perfection and in the final sixteenth displayed great gameness. H. Stuart hand rode the gelding with power and clearly outfinished Knigbt and Devin. Limelight, especially prepared for this race, ran above his mark, and came near scoring. Devin rr ay have been a trifle overconfident on Patroon, who ran one of his best races. Red Pirate ran all around his horses on the turns and was generally poorly handled. Tulla Fonso was given several chances and it was no fault of the starter that she was left.
