VOLODYOVSKId DERBY For the second time in its history the Epsom Derby the far famed Blue Ribbon of the turf baa fallen to an American owner But Mr Lorillards success with Iroquois in 1881 was achieved with an American bred colt whereas Mr Whitney won yesterday with a colt of Eng ish breeding the running qualities of which were leased mainly with the Derby in view Yolodyovski being at the time the antepost favorite for the greatest of races racesVblodyovski Vblodyovski is a brown colt by Florizel II Lft Reine He was bred by Lady Meux who not only breeds thoroughbreds but also races them under the name of Mr Theobald His running qualities were leased to Lord Boresford and when the latter died his widow refused at first to surrender the colt The courts were appealed to in the matter and they decided that the horse was the property of Lady Moux and that the lease expired with the death of Lord Boresford Subsequently Mr William C Whitney leased Volodjovski and guided by LeBterReiff the good colt ran and won in his colors yesterday The Duke of Portlands Wil ¬ liam III was second and Douglas Bairds Ver ¬ onese third Mr Keenes Olympian led for over a mile out was unplaced at the finish
