NASHVIILE TURF GOSSIP NASHVILLE TENN March 1 We have every prospect for one of the best meetings ever held at Nashville Horses are all forward in their training and all ready to race This grows out of the fact that they have had the use of the covered track all winter Messrs Stevens Bruhns Hayes and Jack ¬ son are all going to try for stakes at Memphis Last year Mr Hayes won the Tennessee Derby and ho will try again this season for this classic event Messrs Stevens and Jackson and Bruhns have Oaks candidates and will have starters Our own Derby promises a great race We have McChosney Abo Frank Andy Williams Ed Austin Kaffir Buccleuth Red Robe Lucien Appleby Cast Iron and others entered and the race on paper appears to be one of the best threeyearold events of the early season We have every prospect of a high class meeting No purse will be for less than 300 and some will be up to 600 Open betting will be in vogue at all times at this place placeThe The Belle Meado sale will be held in New York some time in June There will bo some fifty head in the consignment There are some thirtyeight colts and twelve fillies Good judges such as John E Madden Edward Gardner May Overton Thomas Hayes W W Darden and others pronounce them themibout ibout the best collection of youngsters that have ever been collected together on any one farm The majority of the youngsters are by Tithonus and In ¬ spector B The other sires represented are Huron Loyalist Longstreet Luke Blackburn etc Among the matrons are Duchess dam of Clifford and Arch Duke by Kingfisher Maud Ward clam of Hugh Penny by Springbok Fanny Ellsler by Midlo ¬ thian and Sun Maid dam of Espionage by Abdel Kader All are bred in the purple and the major ¬ ity of them have been entered in the Futurity for 1903 1903The The offer Gen W H Jackson had for his stallion The Commoner came from A B Spreckels the Californian The offer was 50000 which was de ¬ clined The Commoner will be private this season and many of the best matrons on the Belle Meade Meadefarm farm will be bred to him J E Madden of Lexington Ky was here Tues ¬ day He purchased a twoyearold Tithonns colt and several broodmares from E S Gardner Avon dale Farm It is said Madden invested 20000 with Gardner
