TO IMPROVE THE HUNTER. Secretary Charles lirilliu Herring. of the Virginia or National Hunter Improvement Society, lias called a meeting of the meiiiliers for April 11 at the 1 Willard Hotel in Washington. The object of the soeiety is the development of a distinct hunter type of horse, and the movement, if properly handled and if it meets with sufficient encouragement, should be of great l enefit not only to breeders of this class of horses, but to the thoroughbred interests as well, as the desired ends must he attained by a strong infusion of thoroughbred blood if not confined exclusively to the thoroughbreds. Representative baraeatea everywhere should give the scheme their support. The movement had its birth in the great hunting sections of Virginia, hut if outside cooperation is lorilicoming it is hoped to make it national in scope. The name. Virginia or National Hunter Improvement Society, depends altogether on the cooperation of horse-men outside of the Old Dominion. _____
