NOTES OF THE TURF. William Garth has returned to Washington from a hunting trip in Virginia. J. B. Dunn will race Scotcli Plume at Santa Anita Park this winter and will also have a number of other good performers carrying his colors there. Contractor Allen Is not taking any chances on rain settling the new Santa Anita track. He has a force of men Hooding it with hose lines connected with the track waterworks. Comedian Edwards, who was a trainer on the Canadian circuit several years ago, handling Annie Teuton, Nover and other liorses, was at Oakland one day last week as the guest of Henry M. Mason. Sig. Levy started for New Orleans last night where he will try for some profit through the running of Zipango. Thomas Calhoun, Sylvia G. and others, in which he has a half interest witli A. Weber. The Santa Fe Railroad has made a rate of 7 a car for transporting horses from Ascot Park to Santa Anita Parle, providing the horsemen furnish their own stalls for the cars and order ten cars at a time. There will be a sale of yearlings and horses in training in the paddock at Bcmiing next Thursday, liorses from the stables of -II. T. Oxnard, A. L. Aste, J. A. Wernberg and W. O. Scully will make up the offerings.
