FAVORITES FAIL BADLY AT HAMILTON St Jeanne Defeats Polly Prim Easily in the Best Race of the Afternoon Hamilton Out June 11 The crowds at Hamil ¬ ton still hold up1 and the racing today was full of surprises for the talent Not a favorite crossed tins winning line and the twentyfour layers that cut in reaped a harvest The Walker Cup a race for stee ¬ plechase horses owned in Canada over a course of two miles and carrying with it a silver cup valued at 250 which must be won twice by the same owner and also had a purse which had a value of 430 to the winner was the headliner today Spen ¬ cer Reiff was a disappointment to his backers Aft ¬ er being prominent for the first turn of the flelrt lie fell back beaten finishing third mimy lengths behind the winner Picktime while Steve Lane was an eighth of a mile behind Spencer Relff Bil ¬ berry showed the most speed on the flat and at the beginning of the second turn of the field ap ¬ peared all over the winner but failed to clear the thirteenth jump Rae who came out of the hos ¬ pital today remounted but Bilberry refused to go The fourth race the Gibson Handicap brought to ¬ gether a field of seven that had some pretensions to good class Polly Prim was heavily backed and was a disappointment Opening at the short price of 4 to C the price was considered a good one es ¬ pecially with jockey Nicol up and at post time the outoftown money began to show and 3 to 5 was the best to be had The barrier went up with Polly Prim showing the way and St Jeanne Iri close attendance At the halfmile post McCabc took St Jeanne to the front and opened com ¬ manding lead At the eighth he pulled his whip and the St Mark filly went past the judges stand a winner by three lengths with Polly Prim second
