GOV HUGHES AND SARATOGAS SHERIFF Saratoga Y August 12 Sheriff Bradley de ¬ clares to tight for what he thinks is right even against Governor Hughes move to remove him from oflice He declares that he has kept the law as laid down by Judges Bischoff and Gaynor After a conference with the sheriff Senator Brackett ills lawyer issued the following statement statementI I have seen a copy of tlie charges against tlie Saratoga county sheriff as published in the morn ¬ ing papers I know nothing of the facts nothing that lias occurred on tlie track because I have not l een there But if the sheriff lias honestly done his duty on tlie lines laid down in the written opin ¬ ion I gave him for his guidance he cannot properly be removed nor have I any Idea that he will be for the opinion simply stated the law as it is and as the courts have held it to be beI I do not believe nor have I any reason to be ¬ lieve that the governor will try to make a martyr of the sheriff in order to show his own zeal against race track gambling In tlie first place I think that is neither the conception nor measure of duty of the governor In tlie n xt place such a course is entirely unnecessary His zeal is pretty well known already I guess guessI I assume that the hearing will be conducted with the same fairness as a proceeding in court and I shall prepare for it In tlie same way I know of no reason why I should attempt to try tlie matter out in the newspapers nor shall I
