The latter showed the most speed for live furlongs, but tired in the dosing strides under punishment. Vanen closed up much ground In the last quarter. lien Sand was close up until in the final eighth. Bitter Sir ran on the outside all the wax and showed scant sMed. Chief Desmond closed a big gap. Dr. Molzberg broke slowly and was in close quarters next to the rail on the far turn, but rushed through a narrow opening and, getting clear when turning for home, came fast on the outside of Tom Reid and won gradually drawing clear. Tom Reid virtually forced the pace the first quarter and, showing much speed ihroughout. proved gamer than Jerrymander in a stirring last sixteenth drive. The latter was in against the rail in lie final strides and Powers was unable to use his whip. Dredkin finished fast. Stringency set the earlv pace. Tint failed to stay. Scratched 7S772 Friend Harry. Lord Stanhope raced well for six and a half furlongs. Dr. Mathews finished fast after a rough journey. Montgomery was within sharp and alert pursuit at all times, twice overhauled the filly and appeared to have her beaten In the final seventy-live yards, but swerved slightly under the whip, then steadied down suddenly and. finishing resolutely, would have won in a few more strides. Glorio showed great speed, but tired gradually iu the last eighth under the whip. Etlion was always outpaced. Gowan, caught in the barrier at the start, ran a remarkably fast middle quarter.
