INNOVATION PROPOSED IN CANADA The breeding of th thoroughbred in Canada would be greatly stimulated by the incorporation into this rules of racing of some such provision as exists in connection with French steeplechasing sts the Toronto Glolie In all races run under ules of the Sociote des Stevplcchuse de France they have no French word for the sport and so imvc adopted the English name the breeders f wiu 5 and placed horses receive part of the purses Consequently they have a lasting interest in horses of their own breeding and could afford to accept lower prices for their young stock from such buyers sis would be likely to train and race them The Canadian fanner who had a fey horses of his breed ¬ ing turning in a share of all the purses they won all summer long while somelxxly else was meeting the expenses would soon have many neighbors emulating his breeding operations The principle is now ap ¬ plied to several of our races notably the case of 250 to the breeder of the winner of the Kings Plato and might well be extended to all other races in which Canadianbreds run It would hardly be desirable just yet to have it cover more than win ¬ ners though With the complete organization of the Canadian Racing Associations now systematically covering racing at the accredited tracks the collec ¬ tion and distribution of these breeders awards would be a matter of little ditliculty The matter will come up at the next revision of the rules
