FLOTSAM GOES BACK TO ENGLAND So many firstclass stallions have been exported from England of late years that there Is a notable scarcity of them for the season which will soon commence and It Is welcome ncw that one at least lias been retrieved and will reach his native laud iu the course of tho next month or so re ¬ marks the London Slwrtsman This horse is Flotsam by St Frusquin out of Float which has made n great success at the stud of Senor Carlos lleyles In Uruguay me of his yearlings selling In Buenos Ayres for as much as 20000 and practically all bin first runners being winners Since however the liucno Ayrrs Jockey Club has limited a large number of IU races to stocU bred lu the Argentine Scnor Carlos lleyles has decided to disperse his stud In Uruguay as he cannot compete witli Argentine breeders under the circumstances and as a result Flotsam has been secured for the Cobham Stud and will stand there in the coining season His list will be limited to ten or fifteen mares as he went through a season In the latter half of 1K0 Flot ¬ sams merit as a race horse is well remembered He beat his stable companion Rock Sand for tlie Middle Park Plate and never finished unplaced in any race His victories as a threeyearold included the Newmarket Stakes and the Sandriugham Foai Stakes for which race he carried 140 pounds and conceded twentyone pounds to Exchequer which had just previously run a close second to IlocU Sand at Ascot though In receipt of only seven pounds from tlie Derby winner Float tlie dam of Flotsam was quite the best twoyearold filly of her year and she is by Sheen out of Footliglit dam of Glare bv Creniorw out of Paraffin from which also descend Ladas Cicero Neil Gow Lesbia Flair and Vivid
