MD0WELL SUCCESSES CONTINUE. Ellcn-a-Dale Makes Reappearance After Long Absence from Races and Beats Colloquy. Lexington. Ky.. May «.— Close finishes, the failure of favorites and the continued success of T. C. McDowells stable marked the racing this afternoon. Fine weather served to bring out a big attendance and speculation was heavy. The McDowell successes lxgan in the opener, when Dodsou landed tlbc purse in handy fasliion. His Ellen-a-Dale. candidate for the Suburban Handicap, furnished the feature in a sparkling performance in the principal race, a sprint at three quarters, in which she tixik the measure of Colloquy and Painty Ifcime in a gruelling drive. She was at all times a serious contender, being in forward pursuit of the speedv Colloquys pace until tlie last furlong, where the McDowell filly and Dainty Dame joined issue-. In the sharp drive that followed Ellen-a-Dnle managed to get lier head in front in the last few strides. Dainty I ame lagged near the end and Colloquy retained second place. Sylvestris. au-oth-r of the starters in this race, ran below exoec-tations and dropped out of ■•ontention after going half a mile. The showing of Ellen-a Dale and Colloquy, for first outs, augurs weal for future good IH-rformanccs. The victory of Danceaway in the second race was the biggest surprise of the meeting. There were onl eight straight tickets sold on lier in the .52 liMituels and none at £.". Judge Charles F. Price was in the stand today with Messrs. Thomas .1. Clay and O. I. Wilson. Mr. Price returned tonight to Louisville. Ilandzaretta. Milton B.. Stop, piu and E.irlv Tide were the acce:.taiices for the Leonard Hotel Handicap at one mile which was carded as the race for tomorrow, but after the 1 ntries were announced. Milton P.. became sick, showing a temperature of 10.1. and tin- race was declared off. As a substi tute a race was made up of tweve horses fiat bad been thrown out of the entries for tlie first race.
