The best horses of the time have been named to contest the popular cvtnt this afternoon and a great crowd will be present in hopeful expectation of seeing Fitz Herliert. King .lames Maskette. Hilarious. Sir John Johnson. Priscillian and other famous horses measure strides in a swift rush for Metropolitan honors. If Fitz Herbert should win it would be tin- making of a new record in that it. other horse has won carrying such an Impost as i:i pounds, closest to it lieing Jack Atkins success in l.Ml.s with 12.S iMiimds up. Not the least interesting element in todays racing will lie the running of Pris-cilian if he is sent to the post. Had this fast lmrsi- not been Ml to Kngland for a markedly unsuccessful i-inipaign he would certainlj have been one of the top weights. His ill fortune there is reflected in his comparatively light impost for a horse of naturally high class. His recent success in a sprint of three-quarters with 130 pounds up is suggestive of a return to his line form of PHIS and adds to the interest and uncertainty of the big race. The Mctroiiolitan is by no means as valuable as it was liefore Cov.rnor Hughes began his campaign against racing, but iu rcsuect to racing interest it lacks nothing that the pres cut "generation of horses iu action can afford. The record of the race is us follows: Year First. *ge. Jockeys. Wt. Second. Age. Wt. Third. Age. Wt. Val.
