The old time bookmaker was not missed in the slightest, the speculatively inclined adapting themselves readily to the miituel system of betting and expressing a liking for it at the close of the days sport. R. H. Andersons Joe Moris won the Latonia Derby after I brief struggle to -hake of Boola Boola in the final furlong of the trying mile, and a half journey. Two lengths behind the winner, in third place, was Donau. which was conceding weight to i*M the other starters. He made a game font unavailing effort in the last quarter to keep from being passed by his more lightly weighted rival;;. In the early running fee forced a steady pace with Joe Morris his closest pursuer. The latter moved up with a rush rounding into the stretch and aaaa shook off Donau. foirt had to be strongly urged to stand off Boola Boola. With his customary slowness. Boola Boola was a laggard for the first mile, but came fast thereafter and was going strongest near the end. The time of the race. 2:.!3». was the second liesf in the history of the raee. Hand dOr having run it in 2:32J when he beat Plaudit. The victory of Joe Morris was popular and he waa greeted with prolonged applause on his return to the judges stand. T. . McDowells Kings Daughter added another to her long list of victories by taking the mile and seventy yards handicap in handy fashion from Meadow and Tom Hayward. The feat of Kings Daughter was the more commendable for the reason that she was unloaded from the cars hut a short time before going to the post. Delaney, an overwhelming favorite, proved a rank disappointment in the i»|iening race and finished outside the money. Ella Bryson winning from Oracle, with Loween in third place. Al Muller continued his success by taking the third race from Ilanforidge. incidentally estafolishing a new track record by running three quarters in 1:11*. Hanbriilge was crowding him near the en»l and would have won in a few more strides. John Condon, who is extensively interested in race tracks throughout the country, including Latonia. was a visitor, having come over from Chicago. He was favorably impressed with the prospects for the coming meeting. Starter William Murrays work with the barrier was gilt edged and could not have been improved ii|K n. He used his own discretion as to the manner of starting and dispatched the fields in eaclr instance, foy employing the standing start. Jockeys Kennedy.
