BUTWELL TO RIDE IN MEXICAN DERBY. New York. September 16. — Jockey James Butwell has been engaged by Governor Gulllerino Lamia y Bsrandon of Mexico City to ride his entry in the Mexican Derby, the tirs; great race to be decided at the new mill- and a half track at Condessa. The Derby will be run in October. It is a race of one mile and a half, subsidized by the government with a view of encouraging the improvement of the breed of bones in the Mexican republic. Coventor Landas Derby horses are Toaeoc and Billy. They are being prepared for their race bv Alee Mehrin, who is well known among American horsemen as "Chappie" Melvln. Butwell expects to !»• in Mexico City by the first of October. He wants to familiarize himself with track conditions and accustom hiniseif to the rarilied atmosphere of the Mexican plateau. Teacoc is said to be the better of the Lands candidates. He is an American-bred colt bv adainro-nins and he has been beaten but once in live starts
