WEATHER CLEARS CROWD COMES OUT Pleasing Patronage Follows Return of Pleasant Weather at Fort Erie Track Buffalo X Y October 7 For the first time since the opening day racing at Fort Erie was held under bright skies this afternoon and the improvement in the weather brought a decided improvement in the patronage the turf attendance being equal to that of any day of the midsummer meeting There was little improvement in track conditions the going being deep stiff and heavy Good sport was pro ¬ vided however three of the winners being forced to stand hard stretch drives to win by small margins in the closing strides Rash Live Wire and Spell ¬ bound were Winning favorites and jockey A Walsh had the mount on the last two twoIn In the sixfurlongs handicap the feature race of the program Si ellt ound picked up US pounds and won In handsome fashion Mcxoana the favorite in this race failed to finish among the first three lKth La Salle and Lady Irma leadjng her at the finish besides tho winner Baron Esher came back and duplicated his victory of Wednesday He beat Rio Grande a neck iu the closing race and displayed rare sameness in the final drive G Archibalds finish on Cooney K in the third race was chiefly responsible for that horses Tlctorr With a less capable jockey it Is doubtful if Cooney K would liave finished In the money Rash and Planutess fur ¬ nished a stirring finish in the second race They fought it out throughout the final furlong and It was only in the last stride that Rash got his nose in front frontIt It Is said that the Metropolitan Racing Associa ¬ tion will install a parimntuel machine for their meeting which logins at Dufferln Park tomorrow The idea is to feel out the public on this betting method and if the management finds that local race ¬ goers take to the mutuel system of speculation they will adopt the machines next year Jockey yearJockey Taplins injuries sustained yesterday were not as bad as supposed The lad escaped with a dislocated hip which was sprung back into place at the hospital last night and he will be up and about shortlyA again shortly A G Weston will ship the division of the stable he is racing here for Oapt W F Presgrave and Thomas Clyde to PimlSco on Monday next A ma ¬ jority of the stables racing here will leave for the same place on Wednesday WednesdayJoseph Joseph Riley who is interested in the stable that Richard E Watklns is racing o the Canadian cir ¬ cuit was a visitor at Fort Erie this afternoon He will remain until the close of the meeting John meetingJohn Dyment has shipped the twoyearolds Coal Shoot and Solid Comfort to his farm at Barrie Ont where they will join the remainder of the Dyment horses quartersThe that have already gone Into winter quarters The division of the stable that Thomas Healey trained hero for R T Wilson Jr was shipped to Saratoga tonight
