MEAGER RETURNS FROM AMERICAN SHIPMENT TG ARGENTINA Consignments of thoroughbreds sent to South America by James B Haggin and James R Keenc were sold by auction at Buenos Ayres late in August Particulars received show that neither has any rea ¬ son to enjoy the returns from their venture Mr Keenes horses brought a better average than Mr Haggins but it is a certainty the great cost of shipping considered that the same horses would have brought more money if they liad been sold in this country A yearling halfsister to the peerless Colin brought but 743 at Buenos Ayres She would prob ¬ ably have realized five times that sum or more if sold at Saratoga last summer Of course these animals were the private property of the men who sent them abroad and it was their right to sacrifice them in that manner at their choice But they showed very little regard for the interests of breed ¬ ing and racing in this country in taking the course they did Their lack of patriotism has been cor ¬
