PREDICTS FLORIDA RACING WILL CONTINUE New York October 2S H D Brown general manager of the Moiicrcif Park track at Jacksonville Fla has been here this week in the interest of the winter meeting at Jacksonville Concerning his plans he said We intend to run a highclass meeting and will institute many reforms We in ¬ tend to have the sport governed in a new way A board Tpf three stewards will be appointed one of them a paid official To fill that position 1 would like to secure the services of C J Fitzgerald T C McDowell or James Rowe The other stewards will l e representative horsemen selected by owners and trainers one from the cast and the other from the west These stewards will have the sole power to act on appeals from rulings by the judge or the starter Tbe track management will take no hand in such matters and will simply insist upon square methods methodsA A new system of weighing jockeys will also be inaugurated Outside the weighing room there wilt be another set of scales and the boys will have to weigh over again in the presence of the trainers of the horses Each trainer will have to sign a slip showing that the boys have weighed out and the trainer then will be held responsible for anv short ¬ age We intend to be strict with all classes of horsemen No favorites will bo played by us and a wealthy turfman will have to walk a crack the same as a poor one We will have the biggest winter meeting in this country and 1 think the ac ng will be of a high order of excellence Some as ofas teed of
