RACING GOSSIP FROM THE EAST EASTNew New York December 24 Matthew Byrnes the veteran trainer who has handled several big con ¬ signments of horses for James B Haggin In South America arrived here this week The recent sales of horses bred in the United States were satisfactory owing to the fact that horses shipped in other years from these shores more than held their own with the nativebred material The man who trained the Suburban winners Salvator Pontiac and Montana will confine his efforts to training horses in this country in the future futureWilllim Willlim B Griffin will leave for California within a few days He fold his interest in the horses he handled during the past season with the exception of Karl G which was presented to the Canadian Breeding Bureau The chestnut son of Pirate of Penzance is standing at the stud of J W Arthurs at Brampton fifty miles north of Toronto
