DEBATE AMI-BETTLr Bill LOWER HOUSE OF SOUTH CAROLINA LEGISLATURE IN MIDST OF SUBJECT. Amendments Offered in Both Branches Designed to Defer Date When Measure Will Become Effective in Event of Its Pas-age. Columliia. s. c. Jaaaary 81. — Both branches of the Legislature today devoted considerable time to the anti-betting bill. The lower bouse members allowed it to pass its second reading and then began debates by both sides. Bepresentative Vander Horst. one 01 the strongest opponents of the measure, had the Boor when adjournment came and the bill will be the regular order of business when the house re-convenes tomorrow. During the afternoons debate several amendments were offered to the bill and It :- expected that they will be accepted. One to make the lull effective January I, 1913, la the event ol ii- pasaage, is likely t t the strongest opposi lion. The Injunction clause is also a bane of contention. The senate paased ap debate on the bill until next luesday after advancing it to the third reading stage 1 his afternoon.
