NINE DERBY WINNERS IN ENGLAND. It is gratifying to note that although South America, the Tinted States. Russia, and Germany have during the last fifteen years acquired a number of our Derby winners, and others have died, there are, in Messrs. Weatherbys list, no fewer than nine heroes of tin- blue Riband down for stud duty this season. The senior of the party is Isinglass, who carried oft the triple crown in IS!.!. His fee is ,005. Next ues Ladas. hero of the Two Thou sand and Derby of 1894. at a fee of 45. followed by Sir Visto Derby and St. Leger in I860, whose fee is the modest one of 5. Si. Aniant. winner ,,; the thunderstorm Derby of 1964. stands at 40, Whereas Cicero, who scored in the following year. is on the Sl.ooo mark, and Spearmint Derby and Grand Prize of Paris in 1900 is full at ,250. Orby, tin- 1667 winner, covers at 9" : Minoru. winner of the Two Thousand anil hero of the close finish of four in the Derby of 1909. is likewise at 95. The list is concluded with Sunstar Two Thousand and Derby of last year, who figures at ,505. Perusal of the names of the various stallions recalls memories of many thrilling moments on the race ionise, affording copy for numerous articles which would no doubt make interesting reading. Among the other stallions are several runners-up for the Derby, inclusive of St. Frusipiin ,500. who tool; a decisive revenge on Persimmon for Kpsoin when they met again in the Tcii-thousand-pounder at the First July Meeting; John o Gaunt 95i.
