March 20.— Magazine, at odds-"ii. was the only successful favorite to take a purse at Palmetto Park this afternoon. Changed track conditions, due to heavy rain which fell this morning, served to puzzle I he public and brought about upsets in form calculations. The greatest disappointments came in the early races, j,, which Frank Hudson and Morristowu were decisively beaten. The Orst named was regarded as about the best betting proposition of the afternoon. He was at all Ii s held safe by Flabbergast. Eleven of those carded declined the issue in the third race, and on paper 1 he issue looked to be between Morristown ami i niou Jack. The former was backed with conii deuce, but in the running he was never seriously prominent, jockey Martin giving him a weak ride and gdting Ihiu cut off frequently. Union .lacks -bowing in the race was also much below his former good efforts, bill it was explaim d by an in jut v sii-tained at the post, when Suffragist kicked him." The selling handicap at one mile and an eighth went to Console, staunchly backed by his connec-lions. witli John Furlong, the favorite, in second place. The latter weakened after looming up as the likely winner when rounding into the stretch. General Manager Francis J. The selling race war which has been slumbering dming the past few days, broke out afresh this afternoon, when several of the winners were advanced. Flabbergast, winner of the first race, was run up MOO over her entered price of 00 and was sold to Qallaher Bros., whose Prank Hudson finished second. R. I. Williams, acting for J. L. Holland, then retaliated by claiming Prank Hudson. He it terwards made a propositioa to swap, but met with refusal. Magazine was advanced s2imi over his entered price by Capt. I. M. Walker, bul was retained. Ihe bidding was in retaliation for S. A. Clop ton having taken Merman from Captain Walker a lw days ago. Longhand, winner of tin- closing line, was entered for *.: 0 and when J. W. Bnrtt-schell bid 00. he was promptly knocked down to him. J. S.
