BAR BOOKMAKERS AT PIMLICO Baltimore Racine Commission Provides for Installa ¬ tion of PariMutuels Next Year Baltimore Md June 18 Bookmakers will be barred from Pimlico and the other tracks in Balti ¬ more country after this season by a rule passed by the racing commissioners prohibiting bookmaking after December 31 1912 1912The The commissioners Messrs Redmond C Stewart Spalding L Jenkins and Frederick Von Kapf came to the conclusion that betting is fairest when con ¬ ducted under the parimutucl system Although Ihe commissioners have favored the purimutuel system of betting for some time it was their desire to be perfectly fair with the managements of the tracks so they decided not to put their rule into effect until meetingsAnother after next falls meetings Another important ruling made by the commis ¬ sioners prohibits betting of any sort at race mat ¬ inees One matinee in each of the eight racing months is permitted by law and books usually have been made upon such occasions The courses af ¬ fected bv these rulings are Pimlico Prospect Park Electric Park Gentlemens Driving Park and Tim oninni oninniWith With the passing of the bookmakers boards and boxes at such a prominent plant as Piralico It is believed by many persons closely identified with rac ¬ ing that the ruling of the Baltimore County Com ¬ missioners will eventually become a state law lawMr Mr Redmond C Stewart chairman of the com ¬ mission speaking on the ruling said saidWe We decided for the parimutuel system of bet ¬ ting because we believe It is the fairest way to conduct hotting and expect it to benefit legitimate racing The player selects his own favorite and all the monev is pooled only a small percentage being deducted for payment of the expense of operating the system The system has worked well iu Ken ¬ tucky and on foreign tracks tracksMarylanders Marylanders are not altogether unacquainted with the svslem The Maryland Jockey Club for the past two years has had onu or two parimutuel ma ¬ chines at Pimlico The object in Installing them was to educate the local public to this style of betting
