1IAD BREEDING INTEREST IN FORWARD Louisville Ky July It develops that John II Morris had a partner in the ownership of the crack ivo yearold Forward which Dr W A McEiierv iiiinliased at Latonia last month and shipped abroad in William Sims of Woodford County Sims and hi brother Edward were prominent in turf circles tlxmt ten years ago and raced a number of good horses including The Kentuckian The latter ran i real race with Jack Point In the Brighton Han dicap of 1HM The son of Sir Dixon won by a nar ¬ row margin but The Kenluckian made him run the nule and a quarter in 201 to get home in front frontMr Mr Sims got his interest in Forward by posses ring a season to Cesarion which he secured in a thai with 1 H Wheatcroft He informed Mr Morris of this fact and the latter suggested that his ma re Forelock be mated with Cesarion and that he md Sims share alike in the produce This was sigreeahle to Sims and he thus furnished the horso ind Morris the mare Forward being the result of the mating matingTliis Tliis is the first time William Sims has had much of any tiling to do with the turf in ten years or more 1I married the daughter of the late A J Alexander of Woodford County and settled down on the ex tensive Woodburn estate That plant was once one of the most noted of Americas breeding establish ¬ ments and nourished as a nursery for both thorough ¬ bred and trotting horses for many years It passed out of existence as a stock farm some years before Mr Alexander died diedThe The farm where Forward was reared is the famous Mosque Bouita Mr Morris now owns the place which was once the home of Gen Abe Buford Here where Enquirer was once located and was bred and reared and the place is rich in equine history as many other noted horses were foaled there The ill fated but brilliant McWhirter was bred there as also was Faustus the grandsire of Forward and the four racing queens Nellie Gray Saliua Holly wood and Malita MalitaEdward Edward Sims who raced The Kentuckian and other horses in partnership with his brother Will 11111 went to Texas some years ago and is now credited with being 1 wealthy man having grown ricli in the oil fields of that state He is living In Houston and lias not been about the racetracks much since the son of Pirate of Penzance wore colors It is probable that Woodburn Farm will never be re ¬ vived as a great breeding plant plantWilliam William Sims still has a taste for the turf but raising thoroughbreds on a big scale lias not proven iirolitable In the last few years and farming ou the other hand brings in a steady Income Robert A Alexander who established the place intended it lo be made the llnest country estate in all America hut he died before he could carry out his plans
