YANKEE NOTIONS AGAIN SHOWS QUALITY H K Knapps Good TwoYeariOld Successfully Concedes Weight to Good Haturo Opposition Baltimore Md October 8 The Onecfe StaMVs twoyearold Yankee Notions again showed his quality at Laurel this afternoon by beating a bind f the best sprinters at Laurel in the all iged nan dicap which served as the feature race It was ji dash of six furlongs and in it Were such speedy horses as Sir John Johnson Houseniald llpsp Queen and Rosseaus The twoyear was conceding weight to some of the others and won1 easily by a length and a half after a mild drive with Sir John John ¬ son at the furlong pot Ti e latter outbroke his opposition and set a fast pace to the stretch turn when young Karrick brought Yankee Notions up on th outside The old horse hvmg on well until insiiln tho final furlong Thcn ho began to weaken and In a driving tiiiish just lasted tii beat House ¬ maid a head for second money The mile allowance raw went to Pinco Ahmed by half a length in a driving finish with Dr Duenner The latter had rather a rough triiC Byrne who had the mount on Ocean Blue repeatedly interfered with him Ocean Blue the sister to Ocean Bound showed smart speed for sis furlongs before she quit Mission which finished third was the first racer to carry the colors of August Bcimont at Laurel Favorites won four of the races and the finishes in all but the opening dash were close enough to lie interesting Wood Dove after finishing second and third on many occasions managed to graduate from the maiden ranks when she beat a bad lot in the third race It was a close thing between Colonel Cook and Cloud Chief in the sixth race the former lasting to beat Cloud Chief only a nose Bntwell was crowded back on the first turn with Cloud Chief and it was his determined finish that lauded the horse so close up upH H G Bedwell arrived at Laurel this afternoon just in time to see the horses leave the paddock for the fourth race in which Prince Ahnied carried his colors He was accompanied by John F Schorr aud Matt Feakes The latter brought back the handsome gold cup that went to the owner of the winner of the Kentucky Endurance Stakes and Mrs L A Livingston proudly exhibited teeVtrophy to her many friends at the course courseHerman Herman Flippeu came over from Esmount va to see Lizzie Flat run in tho steeplechase It Was tho first race that he had seen run this season Mr Flippeu is managing a farm of 1200 acres in Vir ¬ ginia on which he has several uwres of his own He has two yearlings by Fatherless that have shown promising trials One is out of the black mare Toots and the other out of Belle Andrews the dam of Woodslde Ho has two weanlings out of these mare by Celt and this year he mated the mares with Glorifier Besides Lizzie Flat Mr Flippen has a couple of fiverjearold maidens by Norwood at Laurel that give orpins of developing into good steeplechasers They were only broken a mouth ago and both have schooled well wellLewis Lewis Garth and Mike Daly leave for Piping Rock tomorrow The former will take Utmost while Mr Daly takes Tom Kirby Jockey W Allen left for the Long Island track tonight He will ride Utmost in the Harbor Hill Steeplechase Capt SteeplechaseCapt E B Cassatt and D Sterrit Giddings sec ¬ retary of the Maryland United Hunts were among the spectators at Laurel this afternoon It is understood that a big consignment of the Whitney horses now racing in England will return to America next week In the lot will be Bashti Iron Mask and several twoyearoUhC iTbe plans of James Rowe are to send these Tiorses to Albert Simons who will race them at Plmllco and Nor ¬ folk It would not be jjarnrialnic to find either Rowe or Simons in England next reason handling some of the Whitney horse Edward McGraw a Baltimore man today pur ¬ chased the twoyearolds Jacquin and BlK Dippet from the Quincy Stable Tho horses were tnrned over to Max Hirsch who will handle them for their new owner ownerJockey Jockey Jimmy Butwell will leave for Piping Rock some day this week to ride a twoyearold thtit Mr Whitney will start during that meeting meetingThis This mornings workouts included the following followingSuffragist Suffragist Mile in 14S Kormak 14SKormak Mile In 143 Thrifty 143Thrifty Serenelghths In 130 130Garden Garden of Allah Half mlleln 501 Miss Edith Threeeighths in 35 Hamilton Mile in l45rf Anavri Half mile in 50 Sebago Mile In 144 Hobnob Fiveeighths In 103 Fond Heart Half mile in 51 Ivahel Threeeighths In 36 Winning Widow Half mllo In 48 Fascos Fiveeighths In 101 G M Miller Threequarters in 119 Dust Pan Threequarters In 118 Bounder Mile in 144 Accord Mile in 144 Old Coin Fiveeighths In 104 Arcene Fiveeighths in 104 Perthshire Fiveeighths in l05 = i Star Jasmine Mile In 145 General Ben LedJ Fiveeighths in 105 His Majesty Thrwjqnnrters In 120 Sprite Threequarters in 118
