MINERAL SPRINGS OPENING DEFERRED Inaugural Meeting at New Indiana Track Will Not Begin Until Wednesday of Next Week The management of the Mineral Springs Jockey Club was reluctantly compelled last night to an ¬ nounce a postponement until next Wednesday of the opening of the new track at Porter Ind It had Iteen planned to open the course tomorrow but tbe niiu of the past few days played havoc with this plan by preventing the installation of the lighting and water systems and the concrete work that still remains to be done The1 management was espe ¬ cially loath to announce the postponement because of the fear that the public might misconstrue the motives behind it They emphatically deny that tlje action of the attorneygeneral of Indiana In filing a complaint in Judge McMahous court at Valparaiso against the jockey club has the least bearing on the decision to iwstpone the opening It is expected that the hearing of this complaint will take place on Tuesday and the racing people are serenely con ¬ fident that no ground will be found for legal inter ¬ ference with the sport They assert that they have absolutely no apprehension on this score scoreThe The additional four days that will intervene before the opening will surely give all the time necessary to complete the plant The postponement will also have the effect of averting conflict with the base hail contests getween the two Chicago teams in which of course many prospective natrons of the racing are interested Meanwhile more stables are being built to accommodate the horses that are coming to participate in the meeting The 200 stalls already available are cither filled or liave l een s oken for and the additional stables will be necessary to accommodate others for which appli ¬ cations have been received Some 125 horses are now stabled at the cour e and more will arrive there today todayW W U Norvell who is to serve as presiding stew ¬ ard at Mineral Springs reached Chicago yesterday from Toronto and will today join the corps of Uicials who art preparing for the opening Mr Xorvell reports that the following jockeys who rode at Hillcrest have como here to accept mounts Alondou J Cook C White Whatley G W Carroll E Griffin Warrington Minder and Jensen They represent the pick of the riders who had mounts at Hillcrest HillcrestTlie Tlie horses of J M Cooper and H Warner arc en route to Mineral Springs from Toronto by spe cial freight and should arrive todpy Mr Cooper has the good sprinter Jessup Burn while Henrietta W and Ah Moon arc in the Warner Shipment A yA R Boyd whose trainer has arrived at Mineral y Springs with three horses has gone to Laurel to close an option on Amalfi arid ° a twoyearold in the Wilson stable If these horses arc sound Mr Boyd will close the deal and ship them to Mineral Springs without delay
