THE MANAGER MAKES NEW RECORD Huns Mile and an Eighth in 151 im Winning Washington Handicap at Laurel Baltimore Md October 19 Thomas C McDow ¬ ells great threeyearold The Manager scored an ¬ other impressive victory at Laurel this afternoon when he added the Washington Handicap to the list of the races he bus won during the meeting He carried top weight of 124 pounds In todays race made all of bis own pace and made a new track record for the mile and an eighth by running the distance iu 151 The pace was fast from the start and jockey Joe Byrne permitted him to go along at i merry clip all the way In the drive through the homestretch McTagfrart made a des ¬ perate effort with Worth and for a time It looked as if he would get to the leader Byrne beoatm anxious and struck his mount with his whip a couple of times whereat The Manager made an extra spurt and retained his advantage to the finish Superstition was third beaten a neck for second place Frach was given Instructions to rate his mount behind the leaders and he obeyed them The way that Superstition responded when called on made it appear as if he would have had a better chancu had he been permitted to go to the front as he always has In his good races Froglegs ran a smashing good race He was carried wide on all the turns and covered much more ground than any other horse in the race The fractional time was 47 112 138 151
