STALLION FEES IN ENGLAND ENGLANDFrom From the list of this seasons foalings in the old country one thing certain is that prominent sires are not so freely used as in America In the Eng ¬ lish list for this year Symington is on top with thirtytwo foals and as his fee last season was 450 the owner of the son of Ayrshire received a satisfactory return for his services Bayardo which stood nt 1500 is only credited with nine foals and as some of those would be bound to be from inarcs the property of his owner perhaps his is one of the instances in which the return is not complete Cicero 1000 has seventeen foals oppo ¬ site his name and Gatimule 1000 has left three Radium another to do duty at a fee of 1000 is credited with seventeen foals St Frusquin 1500 seventeen William the Third 1000 twentythree and Desmond 1250 sixteen though the chances are the hitters total was greater than that Car ¬ bine has only one foal to his credit this season so age is evidently telling upon the old champion which has started upon his twentyeighth year Another exAustralian FitzGrafton has three fouls in the list and Great Scott four so that neither would appear to l le e In particular demand Spear ¬ mint 1250 received his full share of patronage his foals totaling twentytwo and those of Sund ridge 1000 twentythree It is fair to assume a fair proportion of mares missed but even the sum in fees represented by those which fouled gives some idea of the value of a good stallion in Eng ¬ land Therefore when there are wouldbe buyers about it is no wonder owners of quite a number of horses are not disposed to sive anything less than fivefigure offers much consideration
