PIPING ROCK YEARLINGS DRAWN Allottment of Thoroughbreds to Subscribers for Unique Racing Event Takes Place New York November 2C Fifty thoroughbred yearlings that are to be raced at Piping Rock L L next year were drawn for at the Turf and Field Club at Behnout Park yesterday They were pur chased by Thomas Hitchcock assisted by W It Midgley acting for the committee consisting of Mr Hitchcock Harry Payne Whitney Joseph E Davis and Paul D Cravath Tlie yearlings cost about 20000 and were paid for out of the 50000 in 1000 subscriptions received from fifty gentle ¬ men interested in racing who were approved by tlie committee The remaining 30000 will be divided into stakes to be raced for at the ispring and fall meetings of the Piping Reck Association next year The yearlings were distributed by lot at Behnout Park yesterday and Mr Hitchcock was compli ¬ mented for the judgment exercised in making his selections The young race horses are sired by Russell Boanerges Knight of the Thistle Ormicant Scintlllant II Griffon Coulestor Marta Santa Elec ¬ tioneer Stalwart McGee Goldfinch Chlltou Ham ¬ burg Burgomaster Broomstick Bowling Brook Armeatb II Locoliatchei St Leonard II Aeronaut Ellisdolo and Monsieur de LOrnie LOrnieThe The prize of the lot was a beautiful chestnut filly by Rock Sand and out of Octoroon Everyone was anxious to draw this number but it did not come out until nearly the last aiid fell to the ownership of Gifford A Cochran The filly was a well set up youngster closely coupled and evidently well able to carry weight over a considerable distance She will l e sent to the Piping Rock Club and on the farm of H M Pratt adjoining where a threequarter mile track is to be built will be got in shape for racing next spring by W R Midgley who will also train for all the other subscribers who have no trainer of their own ownThe The purchase of these yearlings has been a source of encouragement to breeders and the breeding in ¬ dustry nut only fur the reason that a substantial sum has been distributed but also because the in ¬ terest in thoroughbred race horses is being thereby revived among gentlemen not heretofore interested In racing Half of the
