WHICH HAD BEATEN HIM TWICE, Injury Scores Easy Victory in Handicap for Which Joe Deibold Is Backed Into Favoritism-Jockey Schwebig Indefinitely Suspended. ■ Paso. Tex.. January IS, — After having bca beaten twice by Shadraoi. Dick Dodie turned the tables on him today in the opening race, a dash of three-eighths of a mile for two-year-old colts and geldings. Shadrach broke sideways and kaaaped into Dick Dodie. knocking him slightly off his stride. Shadrach then went on to the front, but was closely pressed throughout ami. in a hard drive, Dick Dodie outgamed him at the end. Connaught, from the stable of V. J. Grefer. took Ihe measure of a fair band of three yea r-okis in tarn third race. He has all the appearances of being a useful colt. Injury upset the calculations of the smart ones who made Joe Deibold favorite on the strength of the latter** showing in leading Helen Barbee into the stretch on the occasion of his last start. Injury was only cantering in front at the finish and Joe Deibold was unable to get to the front at any time. Jixkey Herman Schwebig was todav indefinitely suspended by the stewards for beating ji ckey Tea-ban over the head with his whip during the running of the second race. Tcalian was severely lacerated aeaat the face. The ruling of the- stewards means that Schwebig is virtually aarrad from the turf. Oakland, which finished second in the tilth race, was claimed for 25 from W. E. Applegate by West-cot t and Krause. Jockey B. Steal* was suspended for five days by Starter Cassidy for an infraction of the rules- at the post.
