NEW TRENCH PENALTIES FOR DOPING The Societe dICncoiiragement have been obliged to change their rule dealing with the doping sys ¬ tem Last year they were only able to disqualify the liorSe to which a stimulant had been adminis ¬ tered By so doing they punished the owner de prived of the prize but no penalty was provided for the trainer or the person proved to have given tin dope This is now changed The trainer is held to be responsible and he can be punished either i r the withdrawal of his license or line of from 10 1o 1000 according to tin evidence If he is oiilv guilty of carelessness or of not sutlicient watchful ¬ ness it is thought that a line will meet tin case but if It is proved that the drug was administered by himself or with his knowledge his license will be taken from him Tubed burses are silso disquali lled from competing under Jockey Club Rules It in maintained that continued roarers should not encouraged having n value for stud purposes This decinion lias not found universal approval but he law has been passed and there it stands No nior horse with tubes in their throats will be seen ruu ning on the tint in France
