114 pulled up after having gone the first eighth in 12 the quarter iu 23j threeeighths in the half in 4S and liveeighths in 101 if He was under restraint ail the way Had trainer Trevey so ordered he could have worked much faster He had up 12S pounds Hawthorn has been measured around the girtli and is found to he seventythree inches As good a judge as F D Weir says that he can recall no threeyear breeding and individuality tills season at Idle Hour Farm Four of the number are by Cunard including a chestnut colt out of Izell a chestnut colt out of Melton Mobray a chestnut lilly out of Lady Kismet and a chestnut lilly out of Sweet Alice There are two the first of his get by the famous Jack Atkin one being a bay colt out of Tower of Candles and the other a chestnut lillv out of Philllstia the dam of Phil Finch There are still four mares due to foal to Cunard at Idle Hour Fnrm three to Jack Atkfn six to Sain and two to Helmet The latter has one bay suckling filly at present it being out of Stumpy a mare which raced well as a twoyearold for tho wellknown turfman Johnny Fay Mr Bradley is pleased with two vearliifgs he owns by Helmet which are tlie tirst get of that sn of Disguise II One is a bay colt out of a halfsister to the noted Froglegs and the other is a bay filly out of Ella Smith tlie dam of Brig He has a promising yearling by Cunard out of the New Orleans Derby winner Minnie Adams but is regretting that Minnie Adams proved barren this year The foals by Sain that have come this year so far are a bay colt out of Wayward Luss and a black colt out of Eonic a Burns Han ¬ dicap winner which is the dam of llenn and Bell Horse Hie great Love Not is also due soon ti foal to Sain and another mare that will drop a foal shortly In this great horse Is Bandcllo a halfsister to Celt The mares yet to foal to Jack Atkin are Black Mary Grill and Whisk Broom Idle Hour 1ariii now contains 335 acres and is divided into fifteen paddocks in which run the fortythree thor ¬ oughbred broodmares now there In addition to the home place Mr Bradley rents from a neighbor grazing room for twenty head of horses Every year he has fifty acres of his fields plowed and sowed in new bliiegrass which is following a custom of Ire ¬ land where so many famous horses have lieen roared He also lets cattle run with his mares which Is an ¬ other Irish method in raising thoroughbred stock
