PIPING ROCK MEETING ENDS AURORA IS RETURNED WINNER OF 100000 i SUBSCRIPTION RACE BY NARROW MARGIN Meeting a Hugo Success from All Standpoints and andHelps Helps the Cause of Racing Materially Much MuchNew New Blood Brought Into Sport New York June 9 This was the closing day of the Piping Hock meeting The feature of the rac ¬ ing was the final race in the Piping Itock Suliscrip tion purse of 10000 contested by the six horses that placed in the two preliminary races The at ¬ tendance was not so great as on Saturday butit was composed of the aristocratic set of Long Is ¬ land While the sun shone it was accompanied by a cold breeze that made wraps welcome The course was in excellent condition considering the drench ¬ ing it received on Saturday SaturdayAurora Aurora won the 10000 race by a nose from Pip ¬ ing Hot with Some Kid third two lengths away and the favorite Belle Terre badly beaten Piping Hot made the pace with Nancy Orme in closest pur ¬ suit The latter retired after half a mile had been traversed and Aurora moved up into second place In the drive home Aurora landed the purse for Mr John B Dennis by a nose Mr Dennis the owner of Aurora is a banker and the head of the firm of Blair Co It is the first horse he ever owned He took his subscription to the race solely to help countryThe along the cause of racing in this country The meeting has been u successful one from every point of view It lias brought quite a lot of new bloods into the sport who never would have thought about it but for the encouragement of men like Messrs Fred Johnson Harrv Pavne Whitney Allan Pinkerton and others of the younger element of racingThe racing The Subscription purse turned out a huge success and will be repeated from year to year probably upon a much greater scale than this year Itaclng here needed some new blood and these subscription purses have supplied the want So much interest was taken in todays race that pools were sold on it at the Piping Hock Club on Saturday similar to the play on which pools are sold on board ship One of the pools was won by Mr Allan Pinkerton and netted him CSOO This gives some idea of the interest taken in the race The raceThe racing was good with the exception of tie opening dash which was won by Culvert through accident Starter Bryan sent the Held off in a straggling manner and Harry Tucker who was up on Heylwurn did not think it was a start and took Ills mount under restraint for a few strides Wlion he did send him along he was many lengths be ¬ hind but made up ground so quickly that he was with the leader on the stretch turn The track has a sliarp turn at that point and the horse boro to the outside fence This cost him more ground than he could make up in the run home It was a hard race to loose as Iteyl ourn was decidedly best Barney bestBarney Schreiber was at the track trying to sell the remainder of his horses to some of the new ¬ comers on the turf turfThere There will lie no racing at Belmont Park tomor ¬ row and Saturday because of the International Polo match at Ilcnipstcad but the horses will race over the Nassau track on Wednesday Thursday and
