IMPROVED PROSPECTS AT MINERAL SPRINGS Second Meeting of Season to Open at Porter Tomor ¬ row with Better Horses Available for Racing Porter Ind August 19 The second meeting of the Mineral Springs Jockey Club is scheduled to begin on Thursday under conditions that promise better racing than heretofore seen here Arrivals of horses and jockeys during the past few days have been quite numerous and there will be considerable racing material of good quality available for the racing Profiting also by experience the manage ¬ ment intends to establish a better system iu the con ¬ duct racingThere of the racing There will be several changes in the official staff the principal one being that of starter Richard Dwyer who formerly discharged the duties of starter anil assistant manager departed last week for California The assistant managership will be tilled by Hart Dernham but the question of start r will not be decided until tomorrow At present James Milton Arthur McKuight and John Hogan are under consideration The last named will likely be the choice choiceThe The program book for the first weeks raciug was distributed by Secretary Wallace tto horsemen today The daily offering for six races is 1800 with the purse values ranging from 2oO to 400 400According According to the management there will be at least 200 horses at the track for the opening Some of the Jockeys here include Mondoii J Mclntyre 1C Grltlin Jensen Gross Delaby and Wingtield Ladies will be admitted free during the entire meet ¬ ing The same system of betting formerly in vogue will again be used usedIndianapolis Indianapolis Ind August 19 Plans for a second summer race meeting of fifteen days I cgiuuiug Au ¬ gust 21 at the Porter County Indiana track under the auspices of the Mineral Springs Jockey Club will receive no interference from Governor Ralston if the meeting is conducted in conformity with the Indiana statutes especially those prohibiting gamb ¬ ling according to a statement by the governor yes ¬ terday terdayIn In different places the governor recently has been quoted as saying that no further riicing would be permitted at the Porter County track and he denied ever having made such a statement statementThere There will be the same steps staken as are taken in any Instance to command compliance with the laws of the state the governor said
