TIMELY GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY Louisville Ky September 19 The various can ¬ didates for the 3500 Douglas Park Inaugural Han ¬ dicap one mile and a sixteenth which will feature the opening of the local racing season next Tuesday plowed through the mud and slush at the local courses yesterday At Douglas Park Flora Fina Buckhorn Prince Ilermis and Leochares made an impressive showing and the three first named performers are certain to be keen contenders in the race Prince Ilermis has undoubtedly Improved since last spring his rest from racing since June having apparently done him much good Heretofore he had not been a good work liorse and it was necessary to race him to get him into condition Xow he seems trained to the hour and appears to have keen speed He looks especially good It is under ¬ stood that Kederis will ride him in the Inaugural Handicap if J Livingston is not represented by a starter Provided T Koerner can make the weight he will ride G J Longs Semprite R Goose will have the mount on High Private F J Grcfers Floral Park will have SL Buxton up and Irish Gentleman will go with J Henry in the saddle Amos Turner will likely start Iwth Klebnrne and Flabbergast with C Turner riding the former Keogh will ride Weber Wards Gay Bird if he can make the weight J B Respess will start Jenny Geddes with Slontour up J T Weaver has not decided as to who will ride Gowell but it is likely E Slartin will be up Of course Kederis will ride 1 Livingstons Foundation or Princess Callaway if either starts One of the other is likely to go T SlcCalie will be secured for Prince Iler ¬ mis E C Cowdins Swannanoa and E R Brad leys Benanet are other probable starters startersTrainer Trainer James S Everman will not attempt to got Slilton B ready for this race but will rely on Flora Fina Slilton B will continue to train for Ills engagement in the 5000 Louisville Cup two miles to be run at Douglas Park on the closing day of the meeting October 4 and the 15000 Kentucky Endurance Stakes four miles to be de ¬ cided on the opening day of the autumn meeting at Churchill Downs on October S
