JUAREZ HAS WINDY DAY RACING IS F0RMFUL AND INTERESTING, DESPITE DISAGREEABLE CONDITIONS. Well Backed Contestant in Two-Ycar-OId Race la Victim of Bad Luck James Butler Is Distinguished Arrival. El Paso, Tex., February 0. A high wind made it disagreeable at the Juarez course this afternoon. The attendance remained good, as it was ladies day. The race loving members of the fair sex always accept the invitations of the Jockey Club Juarez in goodly numbers. The racing, notwithstanding the unfavorable weather conditions, was up to the usual standard. The lirst race was marred by an accident to jockey .1. Howard, who had the mount on Mazuik, from the stable that Henry McDanicl left here in charge of trainer XV. Scholield. Mazuik was the medium of heavy support, being backed from : to 1 to even money at post time. The youngster broke well, but only ran a short distance when Fred T. Itolted from the middle of the track to the inside, hitting Eiiie May. which in turn bumped into Nellie C. Mazuik, which was running close to the rail, wan thrown against it with such force that Howards foot was badly crushed. The horse escaped injury. Favorties and long priced horses divided the card. James Butler, accompanied by his son James, arrived late this aftern.ion from New York. They will remain for some time and expect to see some good racing by the horses that Mr. Butler has here in charge of Trainer John Lowe. Mr. Butler says that the two-year-olds that are in charge of trainer K. C. Benson at New York will probably be as good as any that will race in tin- cast the coining summer. Jockey Clavcr was suspended for five days by the stewards for rough riding in the fifth race. He hau the mount on Moralight. B. A. Jones, of Parnell. Mo., has purchased the seven-year-old stallion Waldo for 50 and the hois will lie shipped forthwith to the Jones farm. Superintendent Frank Keegan began today "cut up" the Juarez track, as it was becoming hard.
