VREELAND AND AH RAN POISONED. Toronto, Ont.. September 30. Two well-known local thoroughbreds, Vreeland and Arran, are dead under circumstances that have caused suspicion of malicious poisoning. Roth have been stabled at W. J. Mplllmurrays place on Queen street east, and were found to be seriously sick on Sundav. In spite of prompt veterinary attention both died not long after their condition had teen discovered. Another horse. Jim L., is still suffering from the effects. Arran won a race for Mr. Mcillmurray at Doryal a week ago last Friday, but was sick when he returned to Toronto, and did not run at Wood-blue. Vreeland had been doing well, and last week accomplished the notable feat of winning two races on the same day at Woodbine. The case has been given into the hands of the authorities. Mr. Mcillmurray being convinced that the death of these valuable horses was not accidental. It was Intended. to race them In Maryland this fall and arrangements had been made for their shipment to the South. Vreeland was the more noted of the two horses. He was a frequent wiuner during his six seasons in training and last raced in the name of D. 51. Reld. He was bred by Barney Schrelber at his famous Woodlands Farm near St. Louis. .Mo., an I was by Salu Sister Josephine, being foaled In 1907. As a voting horse he raced in the Schreiber colors and afterwards parsed Into the jossessIon of .1. B. Respess, for whom he won many purses, it was Mr. Respess who shipped him to Canada the pat summer and It was from him that he was claimed for Mr. Reld late In the season.
