MANY IMPROVEMENTS AT FORT ERIE Buffalo N Y June 2S The extensive im ¬ provements that have been under way at the Fort Erie race traek in connection with the installation of the parirmutuel system of letting which will be used at tills course for the lirst time during the meeting scheduled to oi cn on Saturday next have been completed down to the last detail and everything is in readiness fir the opening of the nueling so far as the plant is concerned The course itself is in especially good condition and there is already piite a colony of horses at the traek including several consignments from Ken ¬ tucky The bulk of the horses of course will come from Hamilton and other Canadian points later in the week weekDuring During the last few days there have been many visitors nt the track and President 1 II Madigin of the Niagara Racing Association has been the recipient of numerous congratulations upon the con ¬ venience of the new arrangements and the com ¬ pleteness of the plant It represents the last word o to speak In respect to parinintnel equipment and tin experieme of other racing associations where the nnituels have been used has len fully taken advantage of Joseph Martin of St Louis whose experience in this respect was gained in Kentucky will have charge of the pariniutiicl de ¬ partment in which there will lie some 15O em ¬ ployes The equipment consists of thirty machines of the llachmcisler type and includes three of the latest devices designed to iteriiiit straight place and shov betting on the one mmhine Tlie arrange ¬ ments for the imrehasiiig ruid cashing of tickets have been made jvlth a view to reducing congestion to the minlmimi llie enlarged plant should easily take care of the largest crowd that is likely to test its capacity capacityPresident President Aladigin is looking forward to a week of sport that is likely to set a new standard for Fort Krie The Canadian Derby scheduled for the opening day gives every promise of being one of the most satisfying events of its tyi of the season Mr Madigin received word yesterday from Thomas O McDowell that he intends to ship his sterling lillv Watcrhlossom undefeated winner of tie races this season including the Ashland and Kentucky Oaks here from Kentucky within a day or two with the stable of S M Henderson for the purpose of making a bid for the Derby which he won in 1S9S the year of its institution with Miss Gnssie Waterlilossom will have as opponents such formidable opposition as The Finn winner of the Hamilton Derby Rancher a creditable second in the same race Royal II winner of the Ialonia Derby and other giiod threeyearolds threeyearoldsThere There are stalls at Fort Krie for 700 horses and reservations have already been made for COO of them So it is sure there will be no lack of horses Tin most notable of tin horses already quartered at the track is George M Hendries longdistance champion Great Britain This sterling son of The Commoner ami Touch Not is in superb Itodily condi ¬ tion and will shortly be seen in action trainer John Walters says A leg that gave some trouble last season is apparently as good as ever it was Trainer Walters expects that Great Britain will enter the stud next spring He is a linelooking specimen of the thoroughbred The visitors at Fort Krie on Sunday included Kdward McBride owner of George Smith possibly the best twoyearold of the season and other g gx x d juveniles Mr Mcliride selected stalls for his string which he will ship here from Hamilton within a day or two He has unlimited confidence in George Smiths ability to beat any twoyearold in training It is his theory that the colt is not well suited by muddy going in which he has scored several of his recent victories victoriesPresident President Madigin and his associates in the man ¬ agement of the Niagara Racing Association are making an effort to give greater prominence t the social side of racing at Fort Krie than heretofore Some progress in that direction is expected this
