GEORGE SMITH REGAINS FORM QUICKLY. Takes the Annapolis Stakes from Good Two-Year-Olds with Ease — Improved Weather and Track. 1-anrel. Md.. Octolier 4. — Kdward McBrides crack twoyearold Jeorge Smith showed a return to his obi form this atternion, when he accounted for the Annapolis stakes. 11 dash of thrcc-tpjarters. iu au easy manner and in which he defeated a good band of two-year-olds iu fast time over a drying-otit track. In his race today, in contrast to his previous starts at Havre de Irace. he was sent to the front by Byrne, raced into a long lead quickly, and was eased up at the end. Slipshod was the first to show iu motion out of the chute, but his advantage iraa short lived, for he was soon outpaced by the winner. The stake carried an added value of .40 and was worth ,2oO net to the winner. The card offered this afternoon brought together small fields. The weather showed a decided improvement, being suimiierlike. and a large crowd was on hand. The patronage of the machines was again cxcopti-mally good. The colors of J. K. Maihlen wore victorious for the first time at the meeting when Bonoie Carrie lasted long enough to beat a rather mediocre band of two-year-olds by a narrow margin in the se eml race. The running of the third race resulted in a change of owners when M. B. Fisher claimed Xou-reddln for the Marrotic Stable. Joseph Marrotie was a visitor this afternoon from Xcw York. Tom Klward. the Toronto sportsman after whom Kdward McBrides good two-year-old is named, was a visitor here today. Kdward McHri.le has purchased a bay yearling sou of Cuuard and Wayward I.ass from K. K. Bradley ami be will be taken Up shortly. This is a brother to Buzz Ar und. It is the intention of Mr. McP.ride to attend the coming yearling sales at l exingtou and make other purchases. All of the McBri.le hors-s will be wintered at Pimlico and it is intended to convert Sipteeler into a .juniper. He has shown ability to race over the turf course and with his sjieed should make good in the steeplechase field. Moute Preston has taken up twelve horses that he will cainpai-- at New Orleans next winter. They have been turned out and freshened in Kentucky. Tlie last of the horses came over from Havre de Grace this uioruing. Dr. J. S. Tyree is stabling his good string at the obi Helming course and tliose engaged are brought to the track daily.
