CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. The correct final time of race 29233 was 1:01, not 1:01. Devonshire Park is to introduce an innovation. In all handicaps of a mile or greater distance there will be a bonus of ten per cent of the value of the purse paid to the breeder of the winner. This ten per cent is not to be taken from the purse that is offered, but it is merely an additional prize for the breeder. This is a direct return that will be readily appreciated and it is a really big thing for the fundamental reason for racing, "the improvement of the breed of horses." Richard D. Sampson, who some years ago rode through the steeplechase field in this country, has returned to New York from the war zone. Since leaving the United States in the fall of 1909 Sampson has ridden both 4n Europe and South America, and he is under contract now to return to Russia and ride. While in the Argentine Sampson said that he met Romanelli, Englander, Charlie Gray and other American riders who migrated to South America several years ago. He said that all of them are doing exceedingly well and that both Romanelli and Englander are now wealthy much owners.
