INDICATIVE SIGNS FOR MUD RUNNERS In connection with its publication of entries Daily Racing Form has for a number of years used two signs to indicate the mud running abilities of horses named to start Those horses noted for the facility and ease with which they could gallop in heavy going were indicated by a ringed cross tli us Other horses not in the first rank of mud runners but still considered pretty good in such going were marked with a plain cross X This was all right so far as it went but it has been felt that it did not quite cover the case A good many horses which are best on dry going can race fairly well in heavy going without being dis ¬ tinctly noted as innd runners To give this class a rating a new mark has been given them There ¬ fore beginning January 1 191S and continuing the superior mud runners will be indicated by the sign good mud runners by X and fairly good mud runners by the new sign C
